It is highly unusual for a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk to use self immolation to make a point. It may not stop the eating of beef by non Buddhists in Sri Lanka but his action will galvanize the Sanga into further action of the act of slaughtering the cow. Sri Lanka has many laws on the book in regards to the sanctity of the cow and this act would have an effect on the Buddhist laity & the Sanga.

Why these people do not talk on human killings or influential facts on them? We are experiencing shortage of good thoughts on man kind.

New official data shows that Sri Lanka still has one of highest suicide rates in the world, with almost 4,000 people killing themselves per year, or about 11 per day.
IS SUICIDE BECOMING AN EPIDEMIC IN THIS COUNTRY?
IT'S TIME WE EDUCATE OUR PEOPLE!

Shehan Jayawardene Friday, 24 May 2013 07:06 AM
If some people think that they can stop others from eating beef by setting themselves on fire, they are sadly mistaken. :)
