A large number of roads in Matale, Kandy and several other districts are obstructed due to earth slips, Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Koddippili said.

Several roads are also inundated due to the heavy rains, Disaster Management Center (DMC) said. The Wasgamuwa-Wasgamuwa, Wilgamuwa-Wasgamuwa roads have been blocked due to an earth slip near Hunnasgiriya Town.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. According to district disaster management centers the rainy weather is still continuing.

DMC also warned about earth slips, land slides and rolling boulders in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Badulla and Matale districts due to heavy rains. The Army and the DMC are currently working on to clear the obstructed roads.

Meanwhile a 16 year old girl has died this morning succumbing to serious injuries after a mound of earth had fallen on her house in Rattota and her mother has also suffered serious injuries, our area correspondent said. (Chaturanga Pradeep, Mahesh Keerthirathne)
