A group of eight students of several leading international schools in Colombo were arrested by the Kollupitiya police on Christmas day for allegedly smoking marijuana at a leading shopping mall in Colombo.

The arrest was made following a tip off that a group of students were smoking marijuana.

The teenagers had told the police they were friends of a leading social media network and decided to meet following online chats via mobile phones. The Colombo Fort Acting Magistrate released the suspects on surety bail of Rs.50,000 each.   (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

I have not heard of anyone wasting away by smoking marijuana. Also it is not addictive like heroin or meth. Having said so does not mean that one should use it in public places. This is such a controversial subject that you need a debate to weigh its pros and cons.
