New Delhi Police busted an international narco-terrorism racket arresting three people including a Jammu and Kashmir police constable along with 10kg of heroine worth around Rs35 crore, that was on its way to customers in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and countries including, Sri Lanka and Mayanmar.

The seizure comes close on the heels of recent major drug haul of 114kgs worth Rs100 crore in Uri sector of north Kashmir on January 17 allegedly from a truck coming from Muzaffarabad across Line of Control. Delhi Police claim that Khursheed Alam of Ganderbal, who is posted a constable in 18 battalion of J&K police in Pulwama district of south Kashmir also sourced the drugs from Uri.

The arrest and seizure was made on January 19 when Alam was delivering the consignment to two men from Tamil Nadu — B Ganesh and M Senthil — in Nizamuddin area in south-east Delhi. Special Cell of Delhi police, who busted the racket, claims that Alam was involved in supplying drugs to south India-based drug cartels for more than one year now and has supplied around 75-80kgs of heroine worth over Rs200 crore.

Investigating officers further claim that Alam was in touch with Hizbul Mujahideen launching commander Fayyaz, a Kashmiri-based in Abottabad in Pakistan, while the main supplier of the racket in Ali was based in Kuwait. “The drugs are sourced from Afghanistan and trafficked into Pakistan and then to Kashmir via LoC. From here Alam used to transport it to Delhi and other places in north India. South Indian traffickers smuggled the drugs into local states and other countries including Sri Lanka and Mayanmar,” a senior police official told dna.

While, Alam used to get commission for trafficking of drugs, special commissioner (special cell), SN Srivastava claimed that money militant organisation got was used for terror activities. “Alam got in touch with Hizbul Mujahideen  through one of the militants in north Kashmir and few other over ground workers of the organisation,” he added.

Fayyaz is a known cadre of Hizb-ul-Mujahidin who was active in Ganderbal area of Kashmir Valley till 2006 and thereafter, reportedly returned to Pakistan. The latest activity of Fayyaz was noticed in the month of August 2013, when five militants sent by him were neutralized in Ganderbal area.

“Efforts are under way to probe deeper into the narco-terrorism nexus and to establish the identities of other major Indian as well as overseas based actors of this syndicate,” Srivastava added. (DNA)
