Dayasiri tops with over 3 lakhs votes

Former Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has secured the highest preference votes in the Kurunegala District with 336,327 votes, while UPFA candidate Johan Fernando, son of Johnston Fernando, bagged the second place with 134,443 votes.

About Dayasiri........
He went from being a MP to Nothing by giving up his parliamentary seat.... It was a honourable cross-over.
Unlike many who crossed over being opposition MPs to become Ministers in the Govt.

It was big gamble BUT an acute one. Further, he was vying for position with all odds as Johan was the son of a incumbent Minister & moreover another UNP crossover.

This result speak volumes of Dayasiri's ability.
Its UPFAs gain & UNPs bane.

This result was against all odds & the President need to acknowledge in no uncertain terms. Another king maker emerge.
Even MR & Namal got egg on their face identifying with Johan on political stage.
Amazing margin of preferential votes.

There are may facets to the local government results. If anybody thinks that Dayasiri would have got the same number of votes from UNP its just foolishness.On the other hand Johnston who rode on MR shoulders could not muster enough vote for his son, which could be interpreted as loss of confidence on MR by the voters.
