The Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered the police to arrest the suspects involved in the attack on the Siyatha media network last week and also produce a report to Court on the investigations on 23rd August.

A masked armed gang had attacked the Siyatha station operated by the Voice of Asia network last week causing extensive damages to the equipment and injuring two employees.

The police told court today that they have not yet identified the attackers as their faces were closed and have also not made any arrests.

Even if the attackers were not disguised the police will not arrest them. Example the sirasa incident.

Even if the Police can, they will not arrest the culprits. There is no media freedom in Sri Lanka.
Back the Govt or close down.

the police still could not arrest the sirasa attackers who were on video, this is just a procedure order by the Judge which will be ignored by the police as usual

It is not the police, it is the state that has become an instrument of terror and repression.

    spark Monday, 02 August 2010 11:51 AM

You are joking...they are not asleep but just looking the otherside. The reason is that we voters are the jokers who have created this mess.

    Amarais Tuesday, 03 August 2010 04:05 AM

Producing a report is a very basic requirement. Does the court have to order this from the police? We all know that when we went to school we got a report at the end of the school term.
