The countrywide admission of children to Grade 1 would transpire today. Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane will participate in the main event at C.W.W. Kannangara Central College in Matugama.

Mr. Gunawardane told the Daily Mirror that there would be similar events in other parts of the country as well. He said his deputy Gamini Wijith Wijayamuni Zoisa would attend a function at a school in Wellawaya in the Moneragala District.

However, children will not be admitted to the selected schools under the 'programme for modernisation of 1000 schools' in the country.

“The primary section will be removed from these schools,” the Minister added. (Kelum Bandara)

no child should be denied to a school. a one year old child should be privileged to enter any school. Sri Lanka should not hire teachers who do not have university degree.

@raj: I don't think children are denied schools. Every child will get a school. The problem is that they don't get a school that they want. BEcause some schools are in high demand. We should be more realistic - we can't get all these things at once.
