Colombo – Katunayake to be opened on October 27

The Katunayake -Colombo expressway is scheduled to be open for vehicles on October 27. It will be preceded by three days of public viewing.

On these three days the sightseers will be allowed to use the expressway for leisure activities. The grand opening will follow thereafter.

Special Projects Minister Nirmala Kothelawala said the expressway would see a drastic reduction in travel time to or from the Airport or of those travelling to the North-Central and Eastern Provinces.

The 30 kilometre Colombo -- Katunayake Expressway will only have one exit point at Ja-Ela.

The two main entry points will be in Kelaniya and Katunayake with the estimated travel time of between 15 and 20 minutes.
A toll fee will be charged from commuters.

The amount is yet to be decided, the minister said. (HF)
