The motive behind the killing of the owner of a textile shop – millionaire Larick Rajapaksa (43) has been revealed as a dispute following a woman being videoed while she was in the fit- on room in the shop by the Close Circuit TV camera, Police said.

This businessman was killed last Friday.

Police said they had discovered two swords believed to have been used and a slipper apparently of a suspect. With the help of these clues the police was able to reveal the motive behind the killing.

According to the police images of a sister of the main suspect was captured by a CCTV camera while she was in a fit-on room in the shop.  Subsequently the owner of the shop blackmailed the woman and believed to have allegedly raped her.  He has also let her for the indecent harassment of another person.

The woman who is married has been suffering with much mental agony and worries after the incident and later revealed everything to his brother. He had gone to the textile shop with another person and allegedly hacked the owner of the shop to death according to the police.

The police are also on the look out for the other person who had molested the woman.  The suspects were absconding. Police said the main suspect had been involved in several crimes.(Deepa Adikari)

    State of anarchy!

Lanka Shantha Sunday, 22 July 2012 01:52 AM

Police must catch the culprit who fitted the camera there.
Even the owner say it this technical person must understand the gravity of the job he did.

    Hasthi Sunday, 22 July 2012 01:53 AM

CCTV should be banned from fit on rooms. The intention may be to stop theft. The way to do it is only allow a specific number of items (e.g. three dresses) to be taken to a fit on room per person, at a given time. The misuse of CCTV cannot be stopped otherwise.

    garawi Sunday, 22 July 2012 01:45 AM

This is what happens when people lose faith sin the police and the judiciary. They take matters to the hand and act. This will lead to anarchy. Currently all big shots, from ministers, to Bank governors to department heads, police big shots, big businessmen and any powerful person, escape punishment doing any wrong. The small fry in the street has now no faith that justice will be done. So here we are leading the country to anarchy. The politicians of current and recent past governments are answerable to this state of affiars.

Thats one way of getting justice, not the right way but in a country where power and money seems to buy freedom to commit crime it is hardly surprising.

    warren Tuesday, 24 July 2012 08:09 AM

The brother should've beaten the living day light out of this guy (not kill)just to satisfy himself and gone to jail for a few months. and since the news is already out the sister (victim) meanwhile could've sued this "Millionaire" for everything he is worth.. And after a couple of years have passed and this guy is all alone in his home cos he has no money anymore, gone to his house and broken his manhood. Hehehe.. I would've done this so much differently, but I don't blame the brother for what he did..

    Sri Sunday, 22 July 2012 12:17 PM

Good punishment. But why media not publishing millionaire's photo to public.

In some cases like this, law of jungle better than civilised society!

    Andaray Sunday, 22 July 2012 12:00 PM

No in Sri Lanka there is no other choice than this for this kind of Crime. Let say what would have happen if the women go to police? definitely police would have bribed. And even if it was taken to court what would be the highest punishment will be given? If this is Saudi you can expect capital punishment but this is Sri Lanka.

    Andaray Sunday, 22 July 2012 11:54 AM

Do you think all women will go behind money like your ...........?

    Saradial Sunday, 22 July 2012 11:36 AM

Police is capable but their hands have tied up by politicos

    DN Sunday, 22 July 2012 11:30 AM

Govt. should have system to inspect fit on rooms, hotel rooms etc for these hidden cameras.

    Sampath Sunday, 22 July 2012 11:35 AM

This is not a Islamic country, this is Buddhist country. According to Buddhism no body has rights to take another life. So killer should be hanged.

    Saradial Sunday, 22 July 2012 11:29 AM

Exactly, because people look at it through coloured spectacles.
they look at it as Islamic Law but doesn't see the justice in that. Any way there is a issue about how Saudi implement it.

    Richardson Saturday, 21 July 2012 08:17 AM

Go through the S L justice system would have taken even ten years,
They could have hired a common criminal or the local mafia to do the Job. Way to go man, must have a collection organized for his legal fees.

    sanjayan Sunday, 22 July 2012 09:07 AM

that's not the point. no matter what we may feel, this is a question of right and wrong

    sanjayan Sunday, 22 July 2012 08:53 AM

he was faced with a terrible situation. as much as we might empathise with him, and i do not know what i wud have done in the same situ, no. he should not have taken the law into his own hands.. if everyone decided to follow his example, it would amount to might=right, and the poor and powerless being downtrodden. if there's a problem with the justice system fix that, don't make things worse.

    Noor Sunday, 22 July 2012 08:34 AM

Mhh, then, what would have happened, this millionaire would have assigned a force to kill this brother. use your sense please.

    Noor Sunday, 22 July 2012 08:33 AM

No Need a technician to fit the camera in the room, it is just extended cable only, machine can be adjusted anywhere you want.

One thing the Sri Lanka police is really efficient & able to solve crimes in no time if not for the political interference & the corruption that has crept into it over the last two to three decades.

    Silva Saturday, 21 July 2012 01:41 AM

This is a result of the sad state of affairs in sri Lanka, the horrible truth.
People have absolutely no faith in the police & the judiciary.
There is political interference at every possible level in the bananna republic
When an injustice is done to someone they take the the law to their hands and punnish the culprits.

Being a millionaire the owner would have bribed his way out of this had the victim gone to the Police. Not having faith in them they would have decided to take matters to their own hands.

    Observer Saturday, 21 July 2012 07:18 AM

Well done,Punishment fits the crime. That's not all the ,technician who fitted a CCTV camera in a Fitting room too should receive a similar punishment.

    Hussain Saturday, 21 July 2012 06:24 AM

Why is everyone jumping to conclusions? One party is dead so he cannot talk. How do we know what the truth it till the perpetrators are arrested and interrogated. This is one side of the story. In any case in a civilized society one cannot be the the JUDGE, JURY & EXECUTIONER. That is the law of the jungle.

    Fayaz Saturday, 21 July 2012 05:36 AM

Brave thing........ this should continue in all the rape cases

    Shan Saturday, 21 July 2012 05:34 AM

The question to ask is this: Why people take weapons into their hands? The simple answer is, we cannot expect justice to the voiceless in Sri Lanka.

But looks like the killer was a common criminal. and by letting go of it will just send a bad message to people that they can too take the law in to their own hands.

    digcta Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:38 AM

You mess with people who have noting to loose, this is what you will get in return. Let this be a lesson or a new beginning for those who think they can cover anything with their money. Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman you don't think you can get away, it is coming for you.

    Sagara Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:40 AM

Nobody kill another for no reason unless mentally unsound. You have to keep in mind, one who got killed always the guilty party if investigated, but we rush to say the suspect is guilty.

    DUWI Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:45 AM

If the death penalty is not imposed on rapists and child abusers, people will implement it, as has been the case here.

    rahu Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:39 AM

don't punish him pls. he did the good lessons for everyone. if police cath that person will never punish him

    shahiwal Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:28 AM

People are so mentaly sick now a days. This way of funishing people is really good. If the case goes to courts then ten years to resolve. Ladies be carefull when you go to changing room. Please check every corner and the up above before u chnage. This could hapen to our sisters tmorow

    Palmyrah Saturday, 21 July 2012 04:20 AM

Since Sri Lankans can no longer rely on their institutions of law enforcement and justice, many are now taking the law into their own hands. This is a sign of imminent social collapse. Expect worse.

    asoka Saturday, 21 July 2012 03:55 AM

Those trying to take political advantage by quoting the name ofRajapaksa deserves a similar punishment.
