While welcoming the Panel of Experts report of the UN Chief on Sri Lanka, the British government yesterday called on Sri Lanka to use its response to the UN report and the report’s recommendations to strengthen the process of accountability.

The Foreign Office statement also said that “the UK has consistently called for an independent and credible investigation to address these allegations which is why we fully supported the decision of the Secretary-General to establish the Panel of Experts.”

“The report sets out the importance of a genuine and independent investigation, so that allegations of abuses are seen to have been addressed. We encourage Sri Lanka to use its response to the UN report and the report’s recommendations to strengthen the process of accountability and support lasting peace and security.”

It also stated “the serious nature of the allegations in the report underline that these allegations, and the issue of accountability for them, must be resolved before lasting reconciliation can be achieved in Sri Lanka.”

Why Banki Moon is not trying to establish a Panel of Experts, to find abuses done and currently being done in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan & Libya by so called western allies on war on terror? May be those still in progress!. Lets Sri Lanka heals its wound by itself. Thats the only help IC can do if they need long lasting peace in Sri Lanka.

Good news. This will be followed by sanctions.

    Dinesh Thursday, 28 April 2011 03:19 AM

All these Western Allies are worried about things happened during final stage of the War. No body is worried about the pains we have gone through for 30 years. I too a victim of this bloody war. It seems like UN and Western Allies do not like to see peaceful Sri Lanka but a country with bloody clashes. Is this their stand????

    Upul Thursday, 28 April 2011 03:30 AM

Not supprise. The report is based on yoour and US advised and written the way you two countries wanted by a party of freelance writters hired and paid by UNSG (United Nations Servent Genarls) for the west.
