The body of a disabled man with severe head injuries was found by the Mount Lavinia police close to the Mount Lavinia police station today. The victim had been bashed to death using a stone late on Monday night by unknown persons.

A wheel chair used by the victim was recovered and it is believed the victim was also involved in selling sweep tickets in the area. The police had recovered a pack of sweep tickets in his possession and his cash collection is suspected to have been stolen by his attackers.

The police had this month recovered the bodies of five beggars at various locations in the city also with serious head injuries after being hit using a stone. Investigations are underway to ascertain if the latest murder had any connections with the previous incidents.

SL has 100s of 1000s of beggars. If you think that this govt is planning a "clean up" to make the city look nice or something then, you have lost your eyes after being in opposition for too long.

Firstly this govt does not think of the country so much. If they so there are so many things to do to make it nicer. Secondly killing one begger every month cnnot eradicate the huge number of them.

This is some internal conflict of beggar community, supported by the incompetance of SL police. If they wanna do a proper investigation they shud start from beggar lords. Also I suspect the drug addicts too, since it is easy for such to attack a disabled lottery seller than robbing a house.

Village lad Tuesday, 29 June 2010 03:30 PM

It is strange that all the victims have been with head injuries

    M Rifai Nazim Tuesday, 29 June 2010 03:50 PM

Bollywood produced a movie with actor 'Mennon,' on the same lines. Ask the police to view this film - may help to save some homeless people's lives!

This is a gruesome act. After all we are a Buddhist country suppose to follow the path of Budha's teaching. Is this the way to eliminate poverty? We are ashamed of these inhuman acts.

    Roshan Wednesday, 30 June 2010 04:01 AM

The case will not be considered serious because no body is bothered or willing to fight for these poor beggars. The Police will close the case after some time.

Kalu Arachchi Wednesday, 30 June 2010 04:04 AM
