I am sure this is another govet. creation like "grease devil;". The rulers now use children to change divert people's view to some other areas. the security personnel's of the country cannot prevent killing in Kahawatte, "grease devil issue', now this…what is next? Sooner they will say the entire country get this.

I am not trying to defend the MoH, by any means. But there is such a condition at least listed in my field of expertise, i.e. happens at large workplaces. Also, if its allergy there are ways of proving so and which should be done by MRI (may be they are doing it already) or the University Medical Faculties can look into the issue.

I guess similar to psychological reaction of pesticide contaminated food in parliament.
Upul Tuesday, 20 November 2012 09:43 AM
This may be true Prof, but is not true when the Parliamentary canteen is affected, and a thorough investigation reveals that arsenic is the culprit.
Upali Tuesday, 20 November 2012 09:34 AM
The allergy may be Gunawardean allergy

Not only children, the whole general public need this under this maniacal governance.

Sadly Sri Lanka does not have proper instrumentation and testing mechanisms to test for asbestos, lead and/or other harmful substances. First they should have tested the school before jumping into conclusions, using foreign help if needed

We in this country are forced to believe in rubbish, unless or until things turn nasty.
If a reaction like this is psychological, and our people are so easily succumbing to such, God Help us.
manpei Tuesday, 20 November 2012 12:50 AM
Can be true. Lol
Ranjith Monday, 19 November 2012 07:51 PM
ALL the children should be given psychiatric treatment.
mamath Monday, 19 November 2012 01:03 PM
Similar to other Governmental "findings" & "determinations"..this too is VERY HARD TO BELIEVE
Yehiya Monday, 19 November 2012 07:17 PM
No. This is not related to psychology. Something is there . MRI is not technologically fulfill.

I closely followed the events at Nugawela school in kandy. One child had said he had itching. The the student next to him said the same. All the other students in the class also said they also had itching feeling. Only the first child had scratch marks. In others no scratch marks were seen. Itchy feeling difficult to prove. This could easily be a pshycologocal reaction.
John Fernandez Monday, 19 November 2012 05:49 PM
Yes, this can happen due to psychological reasons. This was shown on a popular TV series called House. Dr House was on board an aircraft and he tells the passengers that he was having a contagious skin disease and start scratching all over. But he was actually faking it. All other passengers became ill, their skin became red and started to scratch. He was actually doing an experiment.
Gunapala Monday, 19 November 2012 05:32 PM
Its what is called a "copy cat" reaction bordering on mass hysteria.
Harry the Mottapala Monday, 19 November 2012 03:44 PM
Mass hysteria is clearly not the cause here. If this is the cause, than how could psychologically inflicted hypochondria be only limited to a specific geographic region and not found in other parts of the country?
DHA Monday, 19 November 2012 03:40 PM
Please for political purpose please don't hide the truth...what is really happening here ???....could this be a possibility of certain level of radiation ???....... We need answers.....
Andrew Pitugala Monday, 19 November 2012 03:34 PM
Sure, this is a Western Conspiracy consult the expert - Vimal.
Shazin Monday, 19 November 2012 03:22 PM
I still believe this is related to spraying of B.T Bacteria for Dengue Finding.
"People exposed to B.t. have complained of respiratory, eye, and skin irritation".
kaputakukula Monday, 19 November 2012 01:13 PM
Now, how exactly these children (from different schools) are psychologically affected?
Poirot Monday, 19 November 2012 01:07 PM
Very scientific! Thats what psychiatrists do, when they cant find a reason simply link it to a disorder..
Prof Wickramatillake Monday, 19 November 2012 01:04 PM
This is true. There is a condition called "Mass psychogenic Illness" and this could be it. - John Hopkins - Royal College of Surgeons Ireland Medical school, Malaysia
