Organizers of the Akon concert which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka last Saturday but later had to be cancelled, have begun refunding the cost of the tickets purchased, officials said adding that the rescheduled concert in the Maldives was also postponed.

“We have already begun refunding the tickets. Those who purchased tickets from Dialog and Cinnamon Grand Hotel will be refunded on Thursday 29th April,” an official at Platinum Entertainment told Daily Mirror online.

The concert by Akon was to be held in Sri Lanka last Saturday but had to be cancelled as a result of protests by some groups who charged that the singer had disrespected Buddhism by having a group of semi-nude dancers perform in front of a Buddha statue in one of his videos.

Platinum Entertainment had later made arrangements to have the concert in the Maldives and had the support of the Maldives government for the concert as well. However when contacted by Daily Mirror online today Platinum Entertainment said the concert had been “postponed” but could not comment on the reasons behind the postponement. (Daily Mirror online)

What will be the next step taken, the "SOUTH PARK" American TV series depicts Buddha snorting drugs? Comparing both the cases, Akon's is minor.

Sri Lankan nationalist/fundies have not heard of southpark... yet. If they show it on Sirasa, they might catch on.

I agree with mahinda. I am sure Akon isn't as narrow minded and hypocritical as a majority of the South Asians.

what happened to the politician who beheaded the Buddha statue during the election campaign? nominated as minister for Buddhist affairs?

A mountain is made of this video clip: there is nothing insulting to any religion in that video and Akon is not dancing in front of the Buddha Statue but only a female dancer for a few seconds. ( not nude). Surely, the Hela Karumaya monks must have definitely enjoyed worst shows than that. Anyway, it is a good thing Akon did not come, because if he did he would have endured what Shah Rukh Khan had to.
