Several people who turned up today to collect their refund for the Akon concert which was scheduled to be held in Colombo but was later cancelled, were in for a rude shock when the organizers failed to turn up at a Colombo hotel to return the money.

The official event organizers for Supafest 2010, Platinum Entertainment (Pvt) Limited were to refund concert tickets to people at the Cinnamon Grand hotel today. The event organizers however were not present and people who purchased tickets had arrived at the hotel to ensure that their tickets were refunded.

A certain individual had been informed by Platinum Entertainment to be present at the hotel at 9.00am to get her ticket refunded. She had arrived at the hotel by 9.00am and stayed until 2.00pm to realize that the event organizers would not be present at the hotel.

Daily Mirror online made several attempts to contact Platinum Entertainment (Pvt). Limited located at Kohuwala on their hotline number however no one picked up the line. (Daily Mirror online)

Some mad people think that cancelling the Akon concert was an act of extremists. This was a very offensive and insulting video. In Denkmark a cartoonist who insulted Allah was reponsible for a riot in Demark ,Salmon Rushdie who insulted the moslem religion, for Blasphemy, was under police protection due to threats on his life. Any one who insults a religion shold please make note of these events.

Has anyone lodged a complaint with the Fraud Bureau against Platinum Entertainment?

They should have just kept the concert... would have been lot less trouble for everyone..:-s Country would have gained immensely from that... but sigh.. Unfortunately it did not happen..:( with this mad decision it just ruined the country's reputation even further.. Now its double trouble... Don't expect any grand concerts anytime soon though..

My friend has got all 10 tickets refunded at their office. If you are willing instead of a refund they will issue fresh tickets for a Jim Reeves concert in December

This is a good lesson for trying to bring in western madness to this lovely country. We sri lankans should go against these type of cheap stuff (western rubbish) which would damage our rich culture.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:21 AM

Very good. You people won't give any money for poor in our country, now going behind for this small refund. Shame on you.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:25 AM

kumudini... you need to do a bit more research before flapping your mouth about things that happen in other countries.

In Denmark, the cartoonist in question is PROTECTED by the government and the idiots who rioted were ARRESTED. Salman Rushdie was also protected and the whole world condemned the jokers calling for his death.

In Sri Lanka, the government actually bows to protestors and cancels the show. The protestors are terrorists... using 'terror' (i.e. violence and intimidation) to inhibit freedom (of expression, religion and speech).

well at this address the so called 'platinum entertainment' office is supposed to be located...however the person in charge of refunding the money was telling that they have received only a limited amount of funds and was randomly taking contact details of people who came to refund. there is no guarantee of a refund either. People have been cheated and misled!!!!

It's attitudes such as the one displayed by kanyadevi that is leading to this nations demise. Is it now illegal to attend a concert? Does that warrant a "punishment" ?

The Government of Sri Lanka is in no way liable to refund the money taken by the organizers. It is typically reflective of this nations attitude that the government is blamed for every wrong.

I disagree, This is excellent! Definitely much more entertaining than the actual freak show. It's a good lesson for the rest of us. Learn what ever you can from it if you are smart. Otherwise it will be you who will be calling Farzana on 0777362065 :)

I thought religions, especially Buddhism teaches forgiveness, tolerance and peace; not retribution. Wouldn't it have been better to educate Akon about the err of his ways instead of flatly refusing him to come down? He made public apologies did he not? As for comparing this event to those related to the Denmark cartoonist and Salmon Rushdie - they always over react. Refer a recent indicident with the South Park cartoon series. We should NOT take those bad examples as the way we should behave. People make mistakes, its how we teach them and correct them that will make a difference in the wolrd- not banishing and punishing them.

Disappointment is only had occurred to the people who love to hear slang over religious icons. If we do a song dancing on the face of Jesus, will they shut up? Vatican will declare war against SL. Glad the famous slanger could not come to SL. The sad thing is that most sri lankans worship these nonsense.

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 02:04 PM

This concert was organised first govt. permission - as you can't organise a concert with permission from the relevant authorities. The reason for refusing a visa for Akon was also quite unconstitutional as what he did was not against Sri Lanka's law. In fact, the organisers had every right to challenge that decision as quite arbitrary. It is therefore the govt. that should bear responsibility and refund the people. Next time, the organisers should learn to get insurance for such events, esp. in Sri Lanka, so that where there is a cancellation, you can also give a refund.

Dishonesty is in the blood of this nation.

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:57 AM

this kind of waanam's comments shows typical sri lankan attitudes...

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 10:04 AM

Exellent!Good for all the party types!!I am sure they can afford this little inconvenience! After all the overheads that has to be absorbed would have been enormous.I think Sri Lankan Government should refund!!Not the organizors

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:55 AM

Another ' Sakwithi'!! that is common in SL (one & Only) hoooo hoo.......

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:35 AM

    so true.

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:27 AM

This is more entertaining than an Akon concert!

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:23 AM

another sakvithy type of scandal done in the disguise of a concert?????

    Thursday, 29 April 2010 11:11 AM

This type of incidents are not new to our people. I thing we are not worthy enough to entertain this type of events. shame on the people who politisized this.
