Residents at Angulana are currently staging a protest opposite the police station in the area alleging that a suspect who was arrested last night and later released was assaulted while in police custody.

A probe is being conducted by the Angulana police, after allegations were made that a suspect who was detained for not being able to establish his identity was allegedly assaulted by a police officer, Police spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.

The suspect was detained but was released after his identity was established, the police spokesman added.
