Access to the World Trade Center (WTC) will be halted for practice runs and race day of Colombo Night Races, which is to start the latter part of this week, a circular issued to all tenants by the management of the WTC said.

During practice runs on December 14 and race day on the 15th, no vehicles or people will be permitted to enter or leave the WTC premises. Free movement will only be allowed until 5 p.m., on both days.

Afterwards, movement will once again be allowed between 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. to 11:40 p.m. only.

Practices and races will commence from 6 p.m. and are scheduled to end at 2:30 a.m.

Whilst no special passes are required on practice day, following the commencement of races, no vehicles or people will be permitted to enter Bank of Ceylon Mawatha till after the end of the races.

Only pedestrians with passes will be permitted to enter the WTC after the commencement of races with access only being permitted from Sir Chittampalam Gardiner Mawatha (near the Regal Theater).

Tenants in possession of passes for the races will have access to the Public Car Park located opposite Lake House, whilst pedestrian access to the WTC will be from the rear drop off point of the building; the front entrance will remain shut on race day.

This is a stupid thing and WTC is the heart of international business in Colombo. How will all staff who are doing outsourcing work for foreign companies work during this period?

Siling Biling Wednesday, 12 December 2012 08:04 AM

President's son's should punished for wasting public money for satellites, car racing etc etc. There are much more better things to do before doing those. It's not their hardly earned money, that's why they waste. When the next govt comes into power inquiries should take place about these and they should be punished for wasting our money!!

    very very important

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 11 December 2012 11:23 AM

Just imagine how many people - mainly the tenants of WTC who pay huge amounts as rent - have to suffer this inconvenience just because the "boys" of the royal family need to have some fun at public expense. We have really got our priorities mixed up and now with the reduction in duty for racing cars, one could expect more and more of these inconveniences to the public. "Godayata Magic" - what else!

    wild Tuesday, 11 December 2012 11:18 AM

Rich boys and political boys ways of spending FREE MONEY !!
    HELL with the public !

Black Lankan Tuesday, 11 December 2012 09:37 AM

Hmm seriously this is really really important

buffaloa citizen Tuesday, 11 December 2012 07:55 AM

If such an extravagance is taking place using public property, can we have a complete account of the money spent on this (including security) and the specific foreign exchange and profits it has earned for the public? Colombo nor Sri Lanka is not the Presidents nor his wives or sons private back garden. Such races can easily be held on the southern highway or even in Beliatta away from highly populated and commercially vibrant areas.

    PREM Tuesday, 11 December 2012 07:49 AM

WHy not declare public holidays for bothdays. Hope MR NAMAL WILL TAKE THIS MATTER wth president

    Srimal Tuesday, 11 December 2012 07:47 AM

After all this is what the country needed. "Night races"

    piyal Tuesday, 11 December 2012 07:40 AM

We have no complaints - but the races should be kept
on proper tracks with proper safety methods
this is like riding a bicycles on paddy fields nothing less nothing more.
the ugliest part is our city is full of sand bags
the spectators should be warned as eroded roads
might give nightmares not only to the drivers but to the
    unexpected by standers

    maanal Tuesday, 11 December 2012 07:30 AM

Life's cheer with new-found political wealth!
