Former Sri Lanka fast-bowler Chaminda Vaas was appointed as Fast Bowling Coach for the tour of West Indies, a temporary replacement for Australian David Saker, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.

Saker, who joined Sri Lanka's coaching backroom in December 2019, tendered his resignation citing personal reasons, SLC announced on Thursday.

Vaas has previously worked with SLC in a coaching capacity, when he was appointed as fast bowling coach in 2013, but his two-year contract was not extended on its conclusion.

"He will go on the West Indies tour," SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said.

"We will have internal discussions to decide on a permanent replacement," de Silva said.

Vaas has also been a consultant fast-bowling coach with Sri Lanka.

Very good move. He is the right fast bowling coach for Srilanka. Good luck for our team.

Vaas had a successful coaching stint with several overseas teams but sadly he will not last long in this highly corrupt Cricket set up. Hope I am proved wrong .

Patch work! Plaster and blame game. We should have excelled in passing the ball!

Well, Chaminda is the right choice. He should choose the right bowlers specially Suranga Lakmal for all three formats T20/50 overs and for Test. At present he is the best fast bowler for SriLanka who hardly gives runs, but take vital wickets.

    FOR HOW LONG?

Sei Lanka cricketers will never do well with a local coach, Sri Lanka should have a white foreign coach it’s only then our cricketers would take the coach seriously and perform.

Ashley De Silva selects players only if they are ready to be born again. That is the hard truth. Get these guys out of SL Cricket soon. Otherwise no-one can enter Cricket if one is not ready to be born again.

So with all these coaches around what is the head coach doing. One for fast bowling, one for slow bowling another for spin bowling, a fielding coach, batting coach and with all these we loose miserably in all most every match played. ask the president. he would send 14 retired generals to change the game.
