The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will announce its presidential candidate at the party convention to be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on September 2, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said today.
He said the party convention chaired by party leader President Maithripala Sirisena was expected to outline the party's future plan while addressing all outstanding matters affecting the party.
The MP told the weekly media briefing that any party was free to announce their presidential candidates but what matters is whether they were in a position to submit nominations.
“We are doing our best to form an alliance with the SLPP with the intention of fielding a candidate acceptable to supporters of both parties. If an alliance is not possible we have no choice but to field a candidate from the UPFA,” he said. (Sandun A Jayasekera)

We just cant understand what you people say. Your were having talks about a merger with the SLPP and now you say this. Whom are you fooling. Why don't either side come out and tell the truth that the talks are over than still quacking about it.
