A 29-year-old woman was arrested with 49.7 kgs of cannabis during a raid carried out by the Kilinochchi Police at Paranthan yesterday.
Police said the suspect woman, a resident of Paranthan, was produced in the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court and detained for seven days for further questioning.
The raid was conducted by the members of the Police Special Branch at Kilinochchi together with intelligence operatives from the Air Force.
Investigations are underway to arrest the husband of the suspect who is believed to be the mastermind of the drug racket.
Meanwhile, the Thalangama Police arrested a 31-year-old woman over possession of 100 grams of heroin at Kalapaluwawa in Thalangama last night.
Police also recovered Rs.30,000 in cash in possession of the woman.
The woman, a resident of Borella, would be produced in the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court.
