A group of Sri Lankans living in Bangladesh in a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has sought permission for Sri Lankans working in Bangladesh to return to Sri Lanka.

“We as a community feel it’s much safer to be in our Motherland and I earnestly request your kind approval in permitting our fellow Sri Lankans to return to Colombo in anticipation of SriLankan airlines being allowed to operate the rout over the weekend dating 27th-29th of March 2020," President of Sri Lanka Association in Bangladesh, Angelo Leanage said.

He also stated, "As a precautionary measure, these citizens requesting for their return have agreed to corporate and comply with any quarantine and security measures enforced by the authorities upon their arrival. It is upon this condition that we have registered approximately 400 to 450 members including spouse and children."

Although as hard as it is we should try our level best to help any Sri Lankan stranded in other countries in these difficult times. That is the hallmark of a competent state. But ofcourse decision lies within the authorities.

As Srilankans at this present situation we need to help them but must take measures to take them directly to a quarantine centre instead of releasing them on the orders of the higher ups for their poltical advantages and putting the other citizens life in danger

Thanks to Sajith and Ranil playing politics and "assisting" returnees from Italy to hide that the virus spread in Sri Lanka in the first place. Damn useless UNP/SJB caused this by playing dirty politics. Now the nation suffers for this selfish action.

I Agree with 'Libtard', but sending special flights to Bangladesh will open the floodgates ... what about Sri Lankans in the Maldives, Pakistan ... even Italy

    Sajith Wednesday, 25 March 2020 07:36 PM

@Jude -fools like you were crying "military dictatorship" just because the Army was helping. Its fools like you who vote for yahapalanya and wonder why the country never develops. Considering what is happening to the whole world, why else do you think they need permission you fool.
