Sri Lankan becomes Asst. AG in US state



A Sri Lankan female has been appointed as an Assistant Attorney General in a state in the USA.

Nilushi Ranaweera who made her motherland proud through this achievement, is a resident in Batapotha, Madelgamuwa in Gampaha and presently lives in the Minnesota State. She obtained her education at Holy Cross College, Gampaha and a degree from the Colombo University in 2005. Later, she entered Hamlin University in Minnesota State in 2006 to read for her B.A. degree in law and won the postgraduate degree in law from Michel Hamlin Law College in 2016.

Later, she learnt law further under a government judge there and was appointed as Assistant Attorney General on August 23, 2019, in Minnesota State. Her husband, Eranda Liyanapathirana, and two sons Akane and Krishan also reside there.

Nilushi Ranaweera (42) is the third daughter of the retired labour commissioner Sarath Weerasinghe and retired teacher Indrani Ranaweera.

She had informed over the phone from America that she remembers with high regard her parents, her elder sisters named Vidushi and Maheshi, uncle Gunasiri Silva and aunt Anoma Liyanapathirana and the former school principal Rev. Mother Nelly Helen and Saddha Abeysekera, former principal of the Yashodara Girls School who instilled self-confidence in her.
