The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today arrested an accomplice of underworld figure Angoda Lokka with 3 kilogrammes of heroin and a large amount of cash at Orugodawatte.
Police said the 40-yar-old suspect Chathura Sanjeewa alias ‘ Keselwatte Krishantha’ had been engaged in drug trafficking for seven years but this was the first time he was apprehended by the Police.
The CCD also recovered Rs. 611,550 in cash and two cheque books from the possession of the suspect who was travelling by car when nabbed.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect owned a luxury house in Kadawatha.
The CCD earlier arrested 'Angoda Lokka's accomplice with 42 kilogrammes of heroin, three T-56 firearms, 170 rounds of ammunition and a 9mm pistol at Ambatale.
Meanwhile, the Pettah Police have arrested a man who had been involved in heroin trafficking at the Colombo Manning Market.
The suspect (43) was arrested by the Pettah Police Anti-Corruption Unit on a tip off received by Pettah OIC Chief Inspector Bodhipaksha in Maradana.
The suspect was found in possession of 20 grammes of heroin and Rs. 25,300 in cash at the time of the arrest.
He was produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate and detained for seven days for further investigations.
A close accomplice of the notorious underworld figure ‘Podi Lassie’ was arrested by the STF in the Gonapeenuwala area in Meetiyagoda with Kerala Cannabis and two swords.
The 26-year-old suspect was handed over to the Meetiyagoda Police for onward investigations.
In Weeraketiya, Tangalle Division crimes officers arrested another suspect against whom there had been 11 arrest warrants.
Police recovered a T-56 firearm, a magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition and 1.6 mg of heroin from the suspect's possession.
Investigations revealed that the 34 year old suspect, a resident of Hakuruwela had at least 25 pending court cases over burglary in various areas of the country.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
