SAITM issue: President to discuss with stakeholders

President Maithripala Sirisena will summon all stakeholders involved in the SAITM Medical College issue for a decisive discussion to resolve the crisis, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told Parliament today..

He said the President would summon the Higher Education Minister, Health Minister and other stakeholders for a meeting within a few days.

“It is the duty of those who oppose SAITM to stop their protests and resolve the issue through dialogue" the Minister said.

The minister said there is a potion of poor children studying in SAITM and they should be allowed to study and become doctors.

He added that it was essential to rectify the shortcomings in the process that was followed in establishing the Malabe Medical College.(Yohan Perera)

case was taken to court...judgment given...appealed...considered...judgment given... now that should stand...NO MATTER HOW THEY PROTEST OR FIR HOW LONG ...the Appeal court jydgement MUST stay...no interference by the President should happen...Law is supreme...President should not get involved...IF he cows down to the low act if GMOA n the students...there will be protests for the minor issues....nip it in the bud or face consequence that may be exploited by the JOkers n MR yo topple the govt or even use Got as proxies for an army coup to take place...All those in power right now will have to face jail time...RW excluded.. via DM Android App

You must be having a wet dream, state universities don't even make the global top 100. Our index is good for the developing world but much improvement is needed. There needs to be quality control, it's not done by banning universities. Need positive constructive approach to raising quality.

We need Quality out put from the SAITEM who are well trained doctors like the one we have from government institutes.So far the government institutes have produced quality doctors .that's why our health sector indexes are better like 1st world countries though we have not such a huge government budget for our health sector.Every body shall respect the GMOA for their commendable duty rendered.

Its good o resolve matters through dialogue, But President should not go down to protests and threats. Ranil has a backbone and know to be patient, though he is not capable to get over issues like MR did (Good or Bad)President should ask protesting parties, If SAITM to be stopped :1. Why not stop all foreign Medical Degrees ?2. Why not Private Hospitals to be also taken over by Govt?3. Why not Private Tution also stopped ? 4. Why not regulate channeling ?5. How can Public money be spent on Free Education only for a selected Group ? How can Govt solve Doctor shortage without having Private medical colleges?
