Former MPs Rajitha Senaratne and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka yesterday said the focus should be made on preventing the spread of COVID-19 instead of cracking down on people for the statements they make. "The disease is spreading fast and the number of cases are increasingly daily. Therefore, one should think of saving the people from the crisis," Dr Senaratne said. "Also Sri Lankan authorities should take the warnings given by WHO seriously," he added. Field Marshal Fonseka said one must focus on the statement made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who mentioned that there are 1,500 suspected of having contracted COVID-19. "I was shocked by this statement," he said. "One cannot be satisfied with the steps taken by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The country should have been subjected to a lock down for two weeks earlier. It would have been possible to control the situation within two weeks if a lock down was imposed earlier," he said. Brandon Saturday, 21 March 2020 07:09 PM
What mr Rajitha is saying is 100% correct. The government has no right to arrest people for exercising their freedom of speech. This government has failed to stop the spread of corona and rather they are on a withchunt on arresting people of the opposition for exercising their freedom to speech. You just cannot arrest people based on blanket judgements on the issue of misinformation. Misinformation is subje ctive and the government should stop it's stupidity even now.

What bloody nonsense are these two buggers talking. They did nothing for 4 1/2 years. Try them in courts and throw them in for at least two weeks.
Sen Sunday, 22 March 2020 02:46 PM
@Breandon,Friend of Ragitha, your friend is misusing the freedom of speech to go an extra mile in his dirty politics, this should be stopped according to the law the land, President with his highly reliable group of officers and and political authority has got enough farsighted steps which not even think by rich and mighty European countries down with virus, people though suffer, they understand, there's no other way to eradicate this virus,so you don't have chance to use this issue against the President
