Newly elected MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, while expressing his best wishes to new Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene today urged him to uphold his rights as a Member of Parliament.
The MP made this request while informing the Speaker that he had to undergo great hardship to obtain permission to attend the inaugural session of the ninth Parliament. “I have also been asked to obtain permission from Courts to attend every session in Parliament. I cannot be doing this every day. It is not possible to work for the people in such circumstances. Therefore I request you to intervene to uphold my rights as an MP,” Mr. Chandrakanthan said.
“I was sent to jail under a political plan,” he said while highlighting that he was an ex LTTE combatant but later left the terror group as he realised that he could not agree with its ideologies.(Yohan Perera)

You should have never been given the opportunity to contest in the first place. Since this a banana republic people from jail also come to parliament. Have you any shame to make such requests.

He is a suspect in the case of murder of a member of Parliament, who was elected to serve the people. Now he wants freedom to serve the people!
