Over 3,800 arrested for various crimes in island-wide operation

A total of 3,880 persons were arrested in connection with various crimes such as possession of narcotics, drunk driving and for being in the wanted list of criminals during a special country-wide operation conducted yesterday.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that 16,894 officers from 494 police stations have been involved in the operation. He said that 60 police sniffer dogs were also involved in the operation.

He said 1,572 persons who were on arrest warrants were taken into custody and another 672 over various offences.

“A total of 127 persons were also arrested on suspicion of various offences and 983 persons arrested in connection with the offences related to possession of drugs and illicit liquor. In addition, eight persons were arrested for the possession of illegal firearms," he said.

The spokesman said the police also arrested 518 suspects for drunk driving.

    So many criminals in the country. Where are the religious leaders. You have failed to deliver. It is not enough to work for your own welfare, please serve these people ,let them see the right path. All religious leaders have got togo some thing here. Otherwise, these guys cannot come out if this misery. Becoming a criminal is generally the choice when a person cannot think something beyond that. So correct these guys.
