A garment factory exported garments and imported corona!!! Wondering if they were producing corona instead of garments within it’s premises to releasing into the local market

    Dee Wednesday, 14 October 2020 06:33 AM

With only one active cluster, (Foreign repatriation is now stopped) military is doing a great job in controlling this. Since there is NO community spread, we should be able to bring this under total control soon.

Michael Ranasinghe Wednesday, 14 October 2020 06:43 AM

There were many who posted thumbs up saying Sri Lanka and Gota defeated Covid and were ridiculing countries in the West when we don't even have hospital beds . This is the sad and sick mentality of our people .

    Kanday Wednesday, 14 October 2020 08:16 AM

Well we did defeat Corona from April 30 - Sep 28, 2020, did we not?

Pasan wickramasinghe Wednesday, 14 October 2020 09:06 AM

Correctly said buddy. Always people don't realise until it affects us. We did not realize that they did not do enough testing and claimed that they defeated Corona. While our partners like India started doing door to door testing whether the patient is having symptoms or not. This proves how insane we are and blamed other countries saying that they should followed Srilanka in defeating Corona. When world house ranked Srilanka last in safest country for Corona, everybody shouted and now you know the real reason.

BE FAIR Wednesday, 14 October 2020 09:17 AM

Gota is not 22m Sri Lankans, we as the populace also need to be responsible. Agree with your "Sad and Sick Mentality" which you demonstrate in your comment itself. Lets support the Govt in their effort as we too have an obligation and duty to do so

Too much of greed, ignorance and truly undermine the value of human life of this factory, is the reason for this

    MN Wednesday, 14 October 2020 07:36 AM

Check the temperature, where masks, these are basic needs to control this virus, this factory didn't adhere to them or did but even that's not sufficient to hold water

    Sokrates Wednesday, 14 October 2020 08:16 AM

A pathetic crisis management by the government and its generals. They now had 10 months to top up the intensive care beds, including ventilators. There are 40,000 intensive care beds in Germany, 30,000 of them with ventilators. According to the population in Sri Lanka, there should be 10,000 intensive care beds, 7,500 of them with ventilators. This is because Germany is number 1 in the fight against corona worldwide.

Prepare for the worst situation. Look for vacant buildings in every districts. Identify minimum resources to manage those selected places. Get support from local donors as well.

    Ranaweera Wednesday, 14 October 2020 08:20 AM

Sri Lanka effectively managed the virus and lost guard. People were seen behaving as if there was no virus. Then this Garment factory broke some rules even further with some help from some ranks. So that is the end of the story. Now it is still under control. But may be not for so long. It all depends on the people. Garment factories earn much needed money but that does not entitle them to get away with the mess they created.

    Siripala Wednesday, 14 October 2020 08:41 AM

Let Brandix to purchase more beds for us.

    Jehan Wednesday, 14 October 2020 10:03 AM

Sri Lanka testing is inadequate. More people are infected than the official figure. Countries with resources have tested 10-30% of the population, where SL tested only 1.5%. Mostly Rajapaksa families.

    Helan Wednesday, 14 October 2020 10:28 AM

I truly see lack of proper planning in MOH regarding management of COVID 19 cases. They are currently using all the resources for asymptomatic (patients without symptoms) patients exhausting the healthcare sector. Looking at the spread of the disease in the community they will not be able to continue this for a long period. As I think what they actually should do is all positive asymptomatic patients should be managed at separate places like quarantine centers under the supervision of doctors and they can be easily sent to a hospital if needed using the ambulance service. And only symptomatic patients should be admitted in the hospitals. All close contacts can be home quarantined till they are subjected to PCR and enough recourses (forces can be used in this matter) should be allocated to monitor them to prevent any movements. By this they can reduce the unnecessary burden on the health sector.

If we were doing the same amount of testing as western countries would our case count be as high? Maybe!

Esther Cohen Wednesday, 14 October 2020 12:28 PM

The problem is there are far too litle people tested and no experts in Sri Lanka consulted. Were are the virologists, heads of the IC 's in hospitals etc for example? Even the health minister is a lawyer.

    Why so few beds?

some hotels should be rented and the bill should be funded by Brandix. They did some plunder and some officials are covering it. Either pay or the management of Brandix should be arrested.
