For the first time, the Education Ministry introduced an online system for the admission of children to popular schools based on their performance at the Grade 5 scholarship examination.
An event was conducted at the Ministry to mark the occasion under the patronage of Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.
Already, application forms have been sent to parents who seek enrolment of their children at leading schools.
The parents of children who got marks above district level cut-off points can send in their applications. The principals of the relevant schools will feed their data to the system for the selection process.
Mobitel has partnered with the Ministry and spent Rs.7.5 million for it. The Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mobitel.
The Ministry has been conducting the scholarship examination since 1952. The exam was conducted this year amidst difficulties triggered by the pandemic. Out of 326,264 students who sat the exam, 47,193 obtained marks above the cut-off points.
