Nuwara Eliya to get Motor racing track

There are plans to build a motor racing track between the Nuwara Eliya Race Course and Nuwara Eliya Gregory Lake, Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said.

The Ministry said that the implementation of the Nuwara Eliya District Tourism Development Zone in an environmentally friendly manner will commence this weekend under the instructions of the President and the Prime Minister.

On both sides of roads from Kitulgala to Nuwara Eliya, Nuwara Eliya to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya to Badulla will be developed as a special tourist zone to attract the local and foreign tourists.

The ministry said that the Urban Development Authority (UDA) plans to implement number of development projects in an eco-friendly manner, the ministry said.

The Kotagala Wetland Garden Development Project, Talawakele town beautification project are also scheduled to commence on Saturday.

Development of Nuwara Eliya Race Course, Raboda and Thawalantenna Tourism Project are scheduled to commence on Sunday .

The Nuwara Eliya Race Course, which has not been properly developed for many years, is to be developed under this tourism development zone with a cost of Rs. 700 million.

The track will be upgraded to accommodate equestrian events, and plans are afoot to build three stadiums for cricket, football and rugby in the center of the race course.

In addition, a 3.9 km long cable car system will be installed from Nuwara Eliya to Nanu Oya railway station, the ministry said.
