The UNP Working Committee today passed a resolution to back Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to defeat the no-faith motion brought in by the Joint Opposition against him, Minister Navin Dissanayake said.
He said it was also decided to give a new face to the party before the New Year. (Yohan Perera)

Obvious decision who are in the Working Committee. If all UNP MPs met and decided then it is different. Let all MPs decide without undue pressure from any. Leader should step down before it is the down fall of the party.

TNA with 16 seats will support Ranil. EDPD 1 seat, Muslim Congress 1 - Total 18.Need to get minimum 113, if all members are present. There will be at least 10 coming from MY3 / SLFP, making the total 28. Now to get 113 the balance required is 85. UNP has 106. Hence they don't mind up to 21 of them not supporting Ranil. Most of them probably will abstain from voting rather than voting against. So, Ranil will survive and more importantly, Mahinda will be happy

A sad decision. This is the end of a party built by the patriots, Statesmen and the masses of all walks of life. The party will be wiped out, Safe guarding the corrupt seems their policy.

the president and SLFP are day dreaming come next election there will be only MR and his 55 supporters in the opposition

Great. Any party should back their leaders who has contributed in numerous way for the growth of the party. There are no people who face difficult times and Mr. Clean no difference. No other leaders came forward to take bold decision like selling Hambanthota Port and various other investment not generating enough money. Unfortunately people of this country had to bailout the government not that the government helping the poor people.

Usual Ranil tactics. He will never leave until he ruins the UNP

Whatever this committee is it can't be a "working committee "

Ranil, where are your pride and so-called self-respect you used to show others? Now you have come down to the level of a helpless beggar pleading for mercy from all lower class party members-as you have considered them. What a pity.
