While denying reports that the country would be placed under lockdown in the wake of new COVID-19 variant being detected in several areas in the country, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said appropriate actions would be taken as per the advise of health authorities.

He told media that they were currently studying the situation and the discussions are underway to decide on the course of action in the future.

“There are news being circulated that the country would be placed under lockdown. However, as of now, we don’t intend to go for a lockdown,” the Amry Chief added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

For those who complain about militarisation ,ask yourself what you did for the country.

    RoaringCreek Sunday, 14 February 2021 06:43 PM

Now this is a new variant of the virus. This has to be handled by health experts.

    Ama Sunday, 14 February 2021 07:05 PM

It clear. How your guys are handle so far as a result new variations also in here now. Going forward is also can foreseen what going to happen.

Sam Silva Sunday, 14 February 2021 07:28 PM

No need as yet. Wait until everyone gets it and then you could decide what could be done.

Only idiots still believe the doctors can do it. Sunday, 14 February 2021 07:38 PM

RoaringCreek, you are so stupid. New variant or old, what can the doctors do ? Look at what is happening in the Western Countries, thousands of people are dying in hospitals and the doctors have no ideas to save them. Here the Army is at least mounting “social measures “ to prevent the spread. Can you get it now !

There is no necessity to lock down the country if people are provided with accurate information and data . When you as the head of the Covid management unit is seen attending high society parties what do you expect the people to do? Lead by example

James Amaraweera Monday, 15 February 2021 03:33 AM

General Silva has absolutely bottled it when it comes to covid management. This is a matter NOT for the military but the medical experts. The only way to prevent furtheer deaths and further pain is to take fast action and lockdown the country. This government is not capable of taking such bold decions. Bunch of bottle jobs.

    Lumbini Monday, 15 February 2021 06:04 AM

If the virus control management is so good, why the spread numbers are increasing day by day?
