Minister Marapane meets US State Secretary

Foreign Affairs Minister Tilak Marapana, who is in the US, was welcomed by the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo at the Department of State this morning.

Earlier, it was reported that the Foreign Minister was visiting the US to attend a high level joint meeting with the US State Secretary and other officials.

The meeting held in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks, was scheduled to focus mainly on security, counter-terrorism and transnational organized crime among other matters.

The two officials and the delegates of the two countries are also expected to discuss Indo-Pacific Strategy, Sri Lanka and the Asian Region, Military-to-Military Relations, Visiting Forces Agreement and Assistance to Sri Lanka's Peacekeeping-Capabilities including De-mining.

After the talks in the US, Minister Marapana is scheduled to visit Mexico and meet Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrad.
