Hit and run accident: Five released after fulfilling bail condition

Five persons including MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage's son, who were granted bail yesterday over the hit and run accident in Bambalapitiya, had been released today.

They were remanded until today as they failed to fulfill bail conditions.

The Bambalapitiya Police arrested eight suspects over the accident in which Borella Police Traffic OIC was injured when the motorcycle he was riding got hit by the Defender vehicle at the R.A. De Mel Mawatha Baudhaloka Mawatha intersection on Sunday.

Seven persons including a female were granted bail with two sureties of Rs 500,000 on each suspect by Colombo Additional Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara and only two individuals were released yesterday.

The driver of the Defender vehicle was remanded till March 11.

They should have been interrogated separately one after the other and then again to fill the gaps to find the driver. A person volunteering to be the driver is a person planted and may not have been in the car at all.
