Former Sathosa Acting General Manager released on bail

Former Acting General Manager of Lanka Sathosa, Wimal Perera, who was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, was released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court later today.

He was today sentenced after being found guilty of selling 1,000 metric tonnes of white rice at a price lower than the control price and incurring a loss of Rs.4 million to the government in 2002. He was also given a fine of Rs.50,000.

Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne, later on, released the suspect on a surety bail of Rs.300,000 as he is to appeal against the sentence.
