President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeisnghe should work towards cancelling civic rights of all the corrupt persons including the ministers in the present government, Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday.

Deputy Minister Ramanayake said both president and Prime Minister should follow the example of their predecessor late Prime Minister S W R D Bandaranaike who tool a way the civic rights of some of his own ministers. “Late Prime Minister Bandaranaike took away the civic rights of several Ministers thorough Walter Talagodapitiya Commission and this government should also do the same,” he said.

“ It was only the government of Late Mr Bandaranaike which took proper action against the corrupt as none of the preceding governments including the government of Late J R Jayewardene, Premadasa, Chandrika Kumaratunga or former President Mahinda Rajapaksa take effective action on corruption,” he added. • EMPTY PARLIAMENT Saturday, 19 August 2017 06:50 PM

"THEN THE PARLIAMENT WILL THEN BE EMPTY" the idea for these wordings are from the quote in the movie "Guys and dolls" where the detective says "The jails are empty tonight"

I totally agree with Ranjan. We have corrupted ministers in both side. I know MS and RW are clean, but their ministers are corrupt. Look at all those in the JO's they too are corrupt, but today they sing as clean.

    Gamini Sunday, 20 August 2017 02:36 PM

Who say RW clean. wait till the end of Bond scam Commi. He is the responsible Minister in charge of Central Bank. He is fully aware of what happened

Have you tried playing music to deaf elephants? What you are doing is exactly the same. Your leader pretends to be deaf and the President does not hear anything other than what your leader tells him. That is politics in the country.

You better keep your mouth shut because no body pay any attention to the rubbish you utter. As the deputy minister what service you have done to the people of this country?

    Nic Saturday, 19 August 2017 09:48 PM

Ranjan: The the Prez and PM will be the first in line to lose their civic rights. But Prez APPEARS better than PM. He is wasting our time like his uncle JRK who escalated the communal divide having won his Colombo South with minority votes. Why don't you get all the 70 odd back bench UNP members and form a unity government with any honest SLFP members?. WR MUST get out. Please don't give up on this need of the hour. Ravi CANNOT be brought back like that senile imbecile Tilak

Also make sure that a subsequent President cannot change the court decision. Pardoning of criminals for own political benefit is a habit in Sri Lanka. Remember SB was pardoned by MR

The fellow who talks about corruption is also corrupt. He sold his duty free car.
