A five-member team of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been appointed to inquire into the controversial statement made by former Western Province Governor Azath Salley.
Meanwhile, the Cinnamon Gardens Police last night recorded a statement from Salley.
Recently, Salley had allegedly said that he does not respect the law of the land but only respects and welcomes the Muslim law.
Earlier, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara said Salley should be arrested for making such a statement.
He said he has informed the CID to look into the matter.
