Authorities are considering the possibility of halting the mandatory home-quarantine process which Sri Lankan expatriates undergo upon the completion of the quarantine process.

Accordingly if the decision is finalised, Sri Lankan expats will no longer be required to undergo a 14-day home quarantine period, if they test negative after PCR tests conducted following the mandatory quarantine period, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.

He said expatriates returning to the country are being sent to serve the quarantine process at government managed quarantine centres or hotels following PCR tests conducted on them upon arrival at the airport. He said this makes for a lengthy quarantine process of 28 days in Sri Lanka.

The Army Commander said authorities are  deliberating the possibility of doing away with the home-quarantine process.

"Those who are undergoing the 14-day mandatory quarantine process at hotels or quarantine centres would be sent home, if they test negative at the completion of the quarantine period. Those who test positive, would be sent to hospitals." the Army chief said.

He said they are hopeful that this move would be implemented soon, adding that the Health Services Director General will issue a special statement in this regard.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

    Finally.... Better late than never.

After harassing Sri Lankan returnees illogically for almost 9 months, the Covid-19 Task Force have come to their senses when they want the foreigners to return. Only in Sri Lanka!!

    RF Thursday, 10 December 2020 11:36 AM

At last the sensible thing to do!

    Dr. AWDS.RODRIGO Thursday, 10 December 2020 12:02 PM

As the latest circular/guideline issued upon foreign returnees dated 04/12/2020 we are supposed to home quarantine foreign returnees who complete mandatory quarantine period at quarantine center/hotel though it doesn't make any sense( as they must undergo day 1 and 10-12 mandatory PCR, and must be negative to discharged from such centers). We want no statements but a circular from DGHS to act sensibly

What about those already in home qurantine and have few more days to go? Can the authorities confirm that they can go out as well (these are people who have had negative tests at the end of their qurantine in govt centers or hotels

This doesn't matter. As always srilankans are forced quarantine even if they can quarantine safely at home. But foreigners can freely roam around as tourists from January. What a shame

A great move..! Hope the hotel quarantine period is also reduced to one week.

    Mudalige Thursday, 10 December 2020 02:23 PM

Sounds so great. Finally we can go home IS IT?

    Gayani Thursday, 10 December 2020 02:36 PM

We are in home quarantine after 3rd PCR test. Few more days to go. Are we allowed to go out?

    Muda Thursday, 10 December 2020 03:09 PM

Any way you have grabbed the required money for the so called qurantine

Comments by modern day morons, by implementing this things will be worse, do u think after 14 days the virus will not come? where it your common sense, See still we are seeing 700 cases per day,and if someone gets it after 14 days we will be further screwed, as people dont stay at one place they go one trips etc... study has shown that 28 days is the ideal (14 days in the centr 14 days @ home) mark my word this will increase the number of infected. Good luck modern day morons
