The Chairman of the national cricket Selection Committee Ashantha de Mel has resigned from the post, for "personal reasons".
De Mel, who last week stepped down as Team Manager citing the same reason, confirmed his resignation to the Daily Mirror today.
"I have informed the SLC CEO (Ashley de Silva), that I am stepping down," de Mel told the Daily Mirror. (Shehan Daniel)

At last. What a great news. But will he be the chairman of the cricket board ? He is a close relative of Shiranthi.

Good the results of the last 2 series South Africa and England demand his resignation. Now the door is open for the person from deep South to do his rounds again.

It's unfair to blame him for the teams pathetic performance or cast aspersions due to his relationship with the first family. This is a result of years of corrupt individuals heading SL Cricket and continue to do so. Unless the core is completely cleaned SL Cricket is doomed .

The teams performance was clear evidence that somewhere down the line they were unhappy.

SLC is a disgrace to our country. Stop plying cricket until we find a good and dedicated team

He should have resigned soon after World Cup 2019 for utter failure of SL team due to his selections.

Hats off to the Great Ashantha De Mel. He did a fine job. What is the wrong of the team selection for the Two tests in Galle. The same team scored two great knocks one in the second Innings of First test and another in the first innings of second test. The same team bowled out England in two innings and played very badly in one innings each in each test. Who takes the responsibility for the rash shots played by our best players supposed to be the auto selection for any test by anybody. Don't blame this great gentleman. What is your idea of Chandimal's foolish and childish play. They have more than four sessions in hand with fifth day pitch is going to be a batting grave, even the target 150 is very tough only on the fifth day not for the fourth day,the only thing we expected was to to kill the time in the middle not the runs. But our fools played like a real fools and everybody blames these greats. Comparing our team selection with England we fielded the best team.

Arjuna, Mahela an Sanga should be appointed immediately as they have been our great cricketers in the past and they know how to inspire the present team with proper direction and also bring-in young cricketers.
