45 asylum seekers nabbed

A group of 45 asylum seekers were arrested by the Marawila police at Marawila this morning when attempting to sail to Australia on a multiday fishing trawler.

Police said that the arrested suspects were from Jaffna and Negombo.(JS and HP)

    As a further deterrent to people smuggling, the vessels should be confiscated and destroyed.

    I disagree. We should encourage them to go to Tamil Nadu where their relatives are. We should send an invitation to madam Jaya to come to the dock and roll out the red carpet for them. Tamil Nadu is just few Kilometres away from Jaffna!

    How will you encourage people in Sri Lanka to migrate to Tamil Nadu? For thousand years people from Tamil Nadu have been coming to Sri Lanka risking life and limb to get away from that horrid, dirty hell hole.

    Stowaways are carried without the knowledge of the carrier! Hence the term 'stowaways'!!
