Cultural Affairs Minister S.B. Navinna said lewd behaviour was not allowed in and around Independence Square in Colombo because it was a public place.
However, he said, couples who behaved could be there.
“Wedding couples also use this area for photographs after getting permission. That is alright. There are warnings against lewd behaviour anyhow,” he said.
Asked whether he had received an order from the top to take action against the two security officers who had ordered out a couple from the site, he said he was out of Colombo yesterday and, therefore, could not be contacted by anyone during the day.( Kelum Bandara)

There is huge difference between "lewd" behaviour and relaxation. You need to define what "lewd" behaviour is. Couples holding hands cannot be construed as "lewd" behaviour. Please grow up.

This statement has a some reality, couple who need to stay freely they can stay their, but if they need to do unnecessary love behavior, they have to find out another place to do that kind of things freely. Because , independence square is not a place for that kind of sexual actions. No need to create unnecessary attention in this regard. This is not a European country, This is Sri Lanka and majority people are attached their cultural values. Young people must understand cultural volubility as well.
