When suitable officers do not supervise work precautions are not taken. Innocent people pay with their lives and limbs.

What a disaster. The army is our saviour and we least expect a calamity of this sort to befall them, May God bless and protect them.

This shows the knowledge of those who instructed them to do the work. Constructing a bund needs technical/engineering expertise. when you watch the fotos you can see they have tried to put more weight on loose soil above. No wonder it collapsed. people who ordered them to do this should be penalised for slaughter of humans and neglect of health and safety .

Could have easily been averted . had these people obtained some technical advise from th eltte terrorsits being held in captivity as how to build an earth embankment. Mahinda chinthanaya is not good enough for these real life matters !!

Sri Lanka lacks safety legislation and standards. A simple risk assesment and control measures would have certainly saved the lives of soldiers.
My sincere condolences to families of the dead.

my question is didn't the heroic sons of the motherland have the brains to realise that looking at the site it was inevitable that the earth would collapse. In the UK, there will be an investigation and the engineers would be prosecuted. In the heroic motherland no one is accountable and they get away with murder.

Very sad news. Thisis what happens when you get trained soldiers to do the work of masons. We see a lot of this around the country these days. Very unfortunate. My condolences to the families of the deceased men and wish quick recovery for those in hospital.

Why are some comments so callous? Six human being lost their lives, they are someone sons & brothers or even fathers. Have some respect and sympathy and not joke about a tragedy. RIP brothers.
