SA records lowest powerplay score

South Africa recorded the lowest first powerplay score — 34 for the loss of two wickets — in World Cup 2019 in the clash against India in Southampton yesterday.
Afghanistan’s 37 for the loss of two wickets against Australia in Bristol was the lowest of the tournament before India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah caused trouble to the Proteas batsmen at Hampshire Bowl in India’s Cup opener.
On Tuesday, Sri Lanka recorded the top powerplay I show — 79 for no loss — against Afghanistan in Cardiff.
New Zealand’s 77 against Sri Lanka and West Indies’ 71 against Pakistan in Nottingham are the next best perfornances of first powerplay in the list. West Indies’ 119 for one against Canada in World Cup 2003 is the best powerplay show in the history of the tournament. New Zealand’s 116 for two against England in 2015 is second in the list.
