Suspect held at police cell, dies after sudden illness

A suspect who was detained at a cell of the Colombo Crimes Division has died due to sudden illness after swallowing a packet containing methamphetamine (ice).
Police said the CCD arrested the suspect having 1 gram Ice during a raid at Wellampitiya on Saturday.  
The suspect while in the cell had informed the police officers that he had swallowed a packet containing Ice, prior to being arrested.  
The suspect was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and died undergoing treatment at the hospital.  
The deceased was identified as a 38-year-old, was a resident of Wellampitiya.  
The post mortem examination was to be held yesterday and the CCD is conducting further investigations.
