Minister Chandrasena’s jeep involved in a serious accident

The official jeep in which Minister S. M. Chandrasena was travelling had collided with a motor cycle, on Thursday night in Kahatagasdigiliya killing the rider and seriously injuring his wife and daughter. 

The Kahatagasdigiliya police are conducting further investigations.  


The accident has taken place on Thursday night around 07.40 p.m. in front of the Ranpathwila Muslim Mosque on the Anuradhapura- Trincomalee main road. The deceased has been identified as P. Ranjith Kumara Herath (36) of Ranpathwila Kahatagasdigiliya a member of the Civil Defence Force.  


The seriously injured wife 36-year-old Priyanga Senevirathne and 11-year-old daughter Chamindya Nimsarani had been admitted to the Mihintale hospital initially but later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for further treatment.  The preliminary investigations conducted revealed that the jeep was travelling from Horowpothana to Anuradhapura, and the motorcycle ridden by the deceased was returning with his wife and daughter who had attended a tuition class and that there had been a head-on crash.  


At the time of the accident Minister Chandrasena had been in the jeep and soon after the accident the minister and those who had travelled in the jeep had got into the jeep which was following with the Minister’s security unit and had fled the scene, the onlookers had informed the police.
