Convicted prisoners at Welikada launch protest

A group of prisoners serving life sentences at the Welikada Prison have launched a protest by climbing on the roof of one of the prison buildings yesterday.

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the protesting prisoners are demanding their release.
Around 25 prisoners have joined in the protest, and all of them are convicted prisoners, he said.
