Bill before court

The bill on proposed amendments to the constitution will be taken up before a five member Supreme Court bench today to determine its constitutionality. 

The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Shirani Bandaranayake, K. Sripavana, P. A. Ratnayake, S. I. Imam and R. K. Sureshchandra are to examine whether the proposed amendments are in line with the constitution.

Acting under article 123 of the Constitution, the President today referred the bill on the proposed amendments to the Supreme Court and sought a determination. The reference application is to be taken up at 10 am today.
