A three-month-old infant has died allegedly due to haphazard circumcision carried out at a medical centre in Maligawatte yesterday, police said.

The 47-year- old doctor, who carried out the circumcision without safety procedures, was arrested by the Maligawatte Police.

The parents of the victim Mohamed Hamdan, are residents of Meethotamulla in Wellampitiya. The suspect is to be produced before the Maligawatte magistrate today.

This is foolish thing to do. This can lead to health problems like epilepsy as well.

This is what will happen if you give 4 years AHS Degree. even pharmacist will attempt surgeries and even minor surgeries will end up with loss of lives

This is not new. Thousands of 'cuts' done in villages by traditional men even without pain killers.

When are we going to stop these types of mutilation in the name of religion. To be true to Islam, these mutilation are carried out without anaesthetics and it the consequent shock that might have killed the infant.

Presumably the death was due to ' Hospital Acquired Infection'. The authorities should check whether proper disinfection of the facility and equipment is carried out.

Margin of error; One in Million.
May this infant rest in peace (in paradise)
Poor parents will suffer throughout though (it all depends)

Not enough. Circumcision, or tattoos, or ear piercings, or any other body modification, should not be done before the person turns 18 and decides for himself.
