Anura Kumara Dissanayake is new JVP leader

2014-02-02 11:13:21

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake was appointed as the new leader of the party at its seventh convention today. He took the baton from Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe who held the leadership nearly 20 years.

In fact, Mr. Amarasinghe proposed the name of Mr. Dissanayake for the leadership post at the convention.  It was unanimously approved by the party members. Since its inception in 1965, the JVP has mainly been ruled by two leaders –Rohana Wijeweera and Somawansa Amarasinghe barring the brief leadership of Saman Piyasiri soon after the assassination of Mr. Wijeweera during the insurrection.

Mr. Amarasinghe was appointed JVP leader at its convention in 1995 even though he was abroad at the time. He returned to the country in 2001. Mr. Amarasinghe is the only surviving member of the party’s central committee appointed during the 1971 insurrection.
Tilvin Silva and Vijitha Herath were reappointed as Party’s General Secretary and Propaganda Secretary respectively. Bimal Ratnayake was appointed as JVP National Organiser and Somawansa Amarasinghe was appointed as International Affairs Secretary of the party.(KB)

A politician I very much admire for being forthright in his politics. Although I don't the endorse the Socialist/Marxist visions & aspirations of JVP, they have become virtual guardians of our fragile democracy. Good luck boy, wish you all the best as the leader of JVP.

I have been using the iPhone 5S since the day it has been released but I still am not so sure whether it is so. One can say that it is a blu phone. I would appreciate if you could be more factual than expressing what you think.

Wish you all the best. JVP will be the real opposition for all the capitalist ruling system in Sri Lanka. Appropriate collective action should be strategically adopted in the party to over come all the future challenges.
    Long live JVP.

Besides GF the one remaining political group with undoubted honesty, sincerity and brimming with talent and hard work with zero personal gains. Anura personifies (like others in JVP) these qualities well. For the sake of long suffering Sri Lankans we wish Anura well in liberating this country.

You have got the batton at very crucial juncture, you must lead the JVP to greater hights. priority should be chase the horu should join hands with every body including UNP AND SF in this rgard. think its a rainy time and one umbrella is available and should get cover despite diferences and after the rain go your own way. VEN Maduluwawe Sobitha THERO can be the umbrella. think wise, lead from there.

There is no success for JVP in the future . It should adopt mixed Ecomomy like China and EU. Capitalisam with social benifit. They have to let go of the past. Change the parties name to confront SLFP and UNP. SLFP is not gaining popularity but UNP is loosing more.
