As part of a comprehensive plan to streamline the domestic service sector, Saudi Arabia has decided to sign agreements with six labor-exporting countries including Sri Lanka to recruit domestic helpers.

“Saudi Arabian Labor Minister Adel Fakeih will travel to New Delhi on Wednesday to ink the new labor pact for the recruitment of domestic workers from India,” Dr. Ahmed F. Al-Fahaid, deputy labor minister for international affairs, told Arab News.

Al-Fahaid pointed out that “India is the second country after the Philippines to endorse a historic labor cooperation agreement for domestic workers.”
Sri Lanka will ink a similar labor pact in the Saudi capital on Jan. 14, 2014 he said. Major labor-exporting countries, such as Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam and Cambodia, are also working closely with the Kingdom to sign the agreement in the near future, he said.

Don't send Sri Lankans to this dirty country. We have had experienced enough in the past. Time for the government to take alternative measures to manage the human resource within the country. Stop sending educated to Europe and the non-skilled to Middle east. Open industries in Sri Lanka to employ them.

Dear Jansz, are you going to pay the loans or contribute major portion to the SL economy. Do we have enough resources and lands to build all the sectors in SL and recruit people. Talk practically not emotionally.

This human capital export from Sri Lanka, should only be considered for semi and full skilled Labour. This is the best way forward when deeling with labour.

Jansz have you studied the economic benefits to the country when we send foreign workers to the Middle East ? If we stop, our foreign earnings(remittance) falls, which results in us borrowing more to fill the gap ! Besides, despite the isolated incidents, many do go, because earnings are high ! So stop being so nonsensical..type when your sober enough !

KSA is not a democratic country where there is no religious tolerance under wahabism , a theory of cruel minds. Sri Lanka should discourage Sri Lankans (indirectly) to go there even for religious obligation. One day, this country will be destroyed not by its neighbours but by its mendor America to the delight of world populace.

It's our own people who send the helpless citizens to this barbaric country. That's the saddest part.
