The United States has said it was concerned about the allegations of horrendous atrocities including killings and rapes in the vicinity of a Deraniyagala Tea Estate managed by a US company and urged that a thorough investigation be carried out and the miscreants prosecuted.

“The US Embassy remains concerned about the incidents and we urge a swift and thorough investigation and prosecution,” US Embassy Information Officer Juliana A. Spaven said while referring to the crimes alleged to have taken place in Noori and Basnagala at Deraniyagala.

“The Walters Bay is a US Company and has holdings in Sri Lanka,” she said.

Meanwhile following the media exposure a complaint was sent to Human Rights Commission Chairman to initiate an inquiry into the incidents of rape, kidnapping, harassment and killing in the area.

The Institute of Human Rights, a human rights watchdog has also urged the Human Rights Commission to consider dispatching personnel to interview villages who have complaints and represent them at inquiries being conducted; ascertain what if any are the reasons for the STF to be moved in; why the area police could not discharge their duties previously and to enable the villagers who have complains to have access to justice and their interest and rights protected.( Susitha R. Well done USA. You are taking the position of the opposition of Sri Lanka. You need to excuse the opposition and it is busy cleaning up it own house. It is about time the US issues a warning to the leader of the opposition.

The US has all the technology to monitor all activity on the Internet. It is good to use this technology and keep a eye on the criminals in Sri Lanka.

Are things so bad in Sri Lanka now, that it requires an International super power to be "concerned", before our own local super power becomes concerned? via DM Android App

Concern is not good enough, we need some actions like desert storm or operation thunderbolt.

All the US companies should be closed down immediately. The govt should promote local industries & companies.

This sad situation not only applies to Deraniyagala but throughout the nation. It makes you wonder about the freedom the citizens are supposed have won at the cost of thousands of young lives.

This was my podi mama who was brutally murdered. The only crime he has done to get punished by a group of notorious thugs was his loyality, honesty and integrity to the job - trying to honour his duties as the Manager of Nooriestate to protect the trees which was under his care. He simply loved and enjoyed this job and wanted to continue working in the tea plantations after his retirement..

PODI MAMA, WE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF YOU FOR NOT BOWING DOWN TO THESE BARBARIANS THREATS WHICH HAS BROUGHT COMFORTS AND RELIEF TO MANY PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN FEAR ALL THESE YEARS - EXPOSING ALL THE NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES OF THESE HOOLIGANS AT THE COST OF YOUR LIFE. BE PROUD PODI MAMA THAT IT IS YOUR BRAVERY THAT HAS BROUGHT SOLACE TO THESE PEOPLE.

GOD FORBID ALL THOSE RASCALS WHO KILLED MY PODI MAMA..

MAY MY PODI MAMA ATTAIN NIRVANA WITH THE BLESSINGS OF THE NOBLE TRIPLE GEM. WE ALL MISS YOUR PRESENCE VERY MUCH.

    You niece

Uncle Sam is not perfect but we should be grateful because otherwise, the meek and the weak have no redress.

The Leaders of this country has to learn a lesson from this." Your laziness and delay of finding solutions have the opportunity for foreign interventions"
Not only in Noori case, even in Weliveriya water issue will go to Geneva this time. Its 'cos your lethargic attitudes.
Be vigilant and maintain disciplines, pls. We want the peace and justice for all, not only to politicos. .

Things getting out of hands cos of lethargic attitudes of the State sector. Noori murder matters coming to light and Weliveriya water matter is boiling, but no firm actions, leaving interventions even directed to Geneva.

Satakaya is quick to take credit for any good thing that happen, when his cronies get up to thuggery robbery and corruption not one comment from him. The stupid opposition does nothing either. I am so sad for my country, hope we will have a leader from the masses who can get rid of this cancerous family that is ruining my country.
